About Anita

Anita Byer built her career on the belief that risk, properly understood, is a source of opportunity rather than just something to guard against. She spent decades building Setnor Byer Insurance & Risk, an independent insurance firm, into one of South Florida’s most respected names in the industry, a chapter she closed three years ago when she sold the company. Drawing on that same operational expertise, she founded and created QuiKer, a process improvement software company that helps insurance agencies streamline their communications and data collection to reduce the operational risk and increase productivity. Her experience, spanning enterprise risk management, insurance and process improvement, gave her a front-row seat to how organizations manage risk, and has served as the foundation to everything she does today.

Today, Anita leads The Human Equation, a company she founded in 1997 that has evolved into a team of risk professionals working with mid-sized businesses to build user-friendly, integrated operational and strategic processes that identify, assess, and manage risk. Their approach brings a fresh perspective on the role risk management plays in business decision-making. Anita has authored over 1,000 courses and briefs on risk management, continues to teach and speak widely on enterprise risk topics, and is actively exploring new business and investment opportunities where her depth of experience can add real value.

Anita’s influence extends deeply into her community. She serves on the boards of the Broward Workshop, Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options, is a Trustee of the Museum of Discovery and Science; and represents the business community on the South Florida Federal Reserve District’s Economic Advisory Council, among many other board and advisory roles she’s held over the years. Her work has earned her recognition including induction into Junior Achievement of South Florida’s Hall of Fame, the Apogee Award, and South Florida Business Journal’s Woman of Influence. Outside of work, she and her husband have opened their home to foster children in the care of DCF, she spends her free time practicing yoga, learning Spanish, painting, hiking, gardening, and playing guitar.
